This visit may not have been the most exciting, but it was productive. My sponosr had to prepare for a faculty meeting, so I only saw her for about 10 minutes when I first arrived at the middle school. With this time, I took the oppurtunity to sit in on Ms. Beckman's fitfth grade Math Essentials. The students were working on adding fractions. While observing, I noticed that many of them had the problem of multiplying when they should be adding. It was also a struggle for them to find common denominators for the fractions. It's interesting seeing that they couldn't grasp the basics of math.
The teaching skills are also different in this class. Ms. Beckman chose to stay more focused than Mr. Bosco. I think the fact that it is much easier for a fifth grader's mind to wander than an eighth grader's mind.
I wasn't as entertained this week at the middle school, but I will say that it was a nice time. Hopefully next week will be much better! :)
